Russell & Caroline first met the 'Friday after Labor Day' in 2012 on a beach trip in Corolla, NC amongst mutual friends.
The Back Story
One of Caroline's good friends from study abroad, Megan, was living in San Francisco and had recently started dating a guy named Eric*. Eric used to live in Richmond and work for Capital One. Every year, Eric's Richmond/Cap One friends planned a week-long group beach trip to Corolla / Duck NC. Well, Eric decided to invite Megan to that year's beach trip. When Megan was asked, she immediately thought, "I have a friend named Caroline who is originally from NC, but lives in NYC now & is single and would probably love to come!" So, Megan asked Caroline to accompany her to the beach that weekend as her wing woman. Caroline thought, "So fun! I love Megan and want to meet her new boo! And I could use a fun trip to the beach with a bunch of strangers!"
About a month after the invitation had been extended, Megan forwards an email to Caroline with information for the forthcoming beach trip. Attached in the email is a PowerPoint deck with photos, mini bios for all 30 people, & amazing animation features to get everyone excited for the trip! A couple of days before her flight, Caroline finally reads through the entire deck. Within it, she notices that a mini bio had been created for her, along with a swiped FB photo. When she gets to a bio for a guy named 'The Rooster' aka Russell, she noticed a detail she hadn't before. Russell's bio fun fact was : "Already has a huge crush on Caroline." (WHAAAT?! I wonder who wrote this?!? ;-)
With a newfound set of nerves for the trip, and maybe just a hint of excitement, Caroline finally arrived at the Norfolk Airport to greet Megan & Eric for a fun-filled weekend ahead. Little did she know, Russell was waiting for Caroline with open arms, in a neon lettered cut-off black t-shirt, shorts procured from WINGS, and a bumpin' V.I.P. pool party out back in her honor.
Fast forward to the next day, the 'Friday after Labor Day', where Russell acknowledges his interest in Caroline by asking her on their first date. Lucky for Caroline & Russell, Megan photo documented that special first date, not without Harris Teeter deli sandwiches & flowers picked fresh from the front yard!
